Depending where you want to go paddling you may need a waterways licence. These are fees paid to the navigation authority that help to maintain the blue spaces we enjoy as paddlers.
In Nottingham, the main waterways we access are the River Trent and the canal. Both of these are managed by the Canal and Rivers Trust.

When you come paddling with WetRock, we will provide a waterways licence for any craft you borrow from us.
The easiest way to get a waterways license is through British Canoeing On The Water Membership. This gives you a waterways licence to paddle on all Canal and Rivers Trust and Environment Agency waterways, as well as others such as the Norfolk Broads. It also includes public liability insurance, and optional insurance for your craft too.
Alternatively, you can purchase a waterways licence directly from the navigation authority.
As a general rule, tidal waterways such as the sea, estuaries, or some parts of rivers don't require a licence.
